What is clean eating? Why has this become so trendy? Who cares anyway? So just wash your food? Right? What?
These are questions that I asked when I kept hearing about clean eating. I had no idea. I mean, I thought I was eating pretty good. We would have protein, vegetables, and a carb of some sort for dinner. Lunch was usually a frozen meal with some fruit. I would eat carrots too. I drank water and Gatorade like it was going out of style. Breakfast would be something quick. I did a lot of breakfast sandwiches from various coffee places. Or we made them at home that we bought from the frozen food section. I was eating clean right?
It’s not about washing your food although that is important to do properly when it comes to fresh fruits and vegetables. Clean eating is about eating WHOLE foods. Clean eating involves staying away from processed foods. Clean eating involves staying away from refined sugars, fake sugars, and most carbs. Clean eating means avoiding chemicals and added preservatives. Boy was I so off with what I thought.
So how hard is it to do this? It HAS to be more expensive right?
It is actually a lot easier than you would think. Stay away from foods in a box, the frozen section, or a can. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Is it more expensive, in the immediate it might seem that way. You just have to be a smart shopper. When you buy fresh fruits and vegetables that are IN season they are cheaper. Vegetable stands and farmer’s markets have the good stuff at reasonable prices. It takes some getting used to. We are a face paced, give it to me now, I don’t have time to make something society which makes clean eating a bit cumbersome. You actually have to prep and prepare food. You need to cut things up!
UGH!!!!!! “I don’t have time to do all of that!”
Do you want to live? Do you want to enjoy your life? Do you want to have a greater chance of growing old instead of growing old and sick? If you answered yes to even one of these questions than you need to MAKE the time. Real talk……… if it is worth it to you, you find a way!
I wouldn’t even know where to begin! <——— I hear that often. I didn’t either. There is so much information out there that can be very overwhelming. Believe me, I know! You can absolutely start with small steps and work your way up to eating as clean as you can. I say that because I don’t eat 100% clean all the time. It’s just not possible for me and my family. Besides, sometimes I want to have some of those DIRTY foods! HA HA! Hey, I’m human and I’m FAR from perfect.
